Introduction to Desktop-file-utils

desktop-file-utils contains a few command line utilities for working with desktop entries.

Compile the package:

./configure --prefix=/usr &&
make

Install the package

make install

Multilib

This package does not provide any libraries so only one installation is needed.

32Bit

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILD32}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH32}" ./configure --prefix=/usr &&
make

Install the package

make install

N32

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILDN32}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATHN32}" ./configure --prefix=/usr &&
make

Install the package

make install

64Bit

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILD64}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH64}" ./configure --prefix=/usr &&
make

Short Descriptions

desktop-file-install is used to install a new, or modify an existing desktop file entry. It is also used to rebuild or modify the MIME-types application database.
desktop-file-validate is used to verify the integrity of a desktop file.
update-desktop-database is used to update the MIME-types application database.
