Configuation Information

If you have GDM installed and you would like to enable user switching pass the following to configure:

--with-gdm-config=/etc/gnome/gdm/custom.conf

If you have XScreenSaver installed and you would like to be able to use those screensaves with gnome-screensaver, pass the following to configure:

--with-xscreensaverdir

Non-Multilib

Compile the package:

./configure --prefix=${GNOME_PREFIX} --sysconfdir=/etc/gnome \
    --localstatedir=/var --with-pam-prefix=/etc \
    --libexecdir=${GNOME_PREFIX}/lib/gnome-screensaver &&
make

Install the package

make install

Multilib

This package does not provide any libraries so only one installation is needed.

32Bit

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILD32}" USE_ARCH=32 \
PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH32}" \
./configure --prefix=${GNOME_PREFIX} --sysconfdir=/etc/gnome \
    --localstatedir=/var --with-pam-prefix=/etc \
    --libexecdir=${GNOME_PREFIX}/lib/gnome-screensaver &&
make

Install the package

make install

N32

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILDN32}" USE_ARCH=n32 \
PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATHN32}" \
./configure --prefix=${GNOME_PREFIX} --sysconfdir=/etc/gnome \
    --localstatedir=/var --with-pam-prefix=/etc \
    --libexecdir=${GNOME_PREFIX}/lib32/gnome-screensaver \
    --libdir=${GNOME_PREFIX}/lib32 &&
make

Install the package

make install

64Bit

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILD64}" USE_ARCH=64 \
PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH64}" \
./configure --prefix=${GNOME_PREFIX} --sysconfdir=/etc/gnome \
    --localstatedir=/var --with-pam-prefix=/etc \
    --libexecdir=${GNOME_PREFIX}/lib64/gnome-screensaver \
    --libdir=${GNOME_PREFIX}/lib64 &&
make

Install the package

make install

Configuring

If you have Linux-PAM installed run the following commands:

cat > /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver << "EOF"
#%PAM-1.0

auth       include      system-auth
account    include      system-auth
password   include      system-auth
session    include      system-auth
EOF

Both Gnome-screensaver and XScreenSaver install a desktop file that display as ScreenSaver.

If you would like you can hide the desktop file provided by XScreenSaver with the following command:

echo "NoDisplay=true" >> /usr/share/applications/gnome-screensaver-properties.desktop

Or you can make it show up as a different name with the following command:

sed -i "/^Name=/s/=.*/=XScreenSaver/" /usr/share/applications/gnome-screensaver-properties.desktop

Migrating ScreenSavers

If you have XScreenSaver and LibXSLT installed you can migrate all of XScreenSaver's screensavers to gnome-screensaver with the following:

mkdir xscreensavers &&
cd xscreensavers &&
for saver in /usr/share/xscreensaver/config/*.xml; do
  ../data/migrate-xscreensaver-config.sh $saver
done
install -v -m644 *.desktop ${GNOME_PREFIX}/share/applications/screensavers
