Introduction to Notification-Daemon-Xfce

Notification-daemon-xfce utilizes the user's D-BUS channel to "pop-up" predefined messages in response to predefined events.

Configuration Information

The following options can be passed to the configure script to override the defaults.

--disable-mcs-plugin: disable checking for xfce-mcs-manager.
--disable-settings-preview: disable checking for libnotify.
--disable-close-button: don't show the close button in the default theme.

Non-Multilib

Compile the package:

./configure --prefix=${XFCE_PREFIX} \
    --libexecdir=${XFCE_PREFIX}/lib/notification-daemon-xfce &&
make

Install the package:

make install

Multilib

32Bit

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILD32}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH32}" \
./configure --prefix=${XFCE_PREFIX} \
    --libexecdir=${XFCE_PREFIX}/lib/notification-daemon-xfce &&
make

Install the package:

make install

N32

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILDN32}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATHN32}" \
./configure --prefix=${XFCE_PREFIX} --libdir=${XFCE_PREFIX}/lib32 \
    --libexecdir=${XFCE_PREFIX}/lib32/notification-daemon-xfce &&
make

Install the package:

make install

64Bit

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILD64}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH64}" \
./configure --prefix=${XFCE_PREFIX} --libdir=${XFCE_PREFIX}/lib64 \
    --libexecdir=${XFCE_PREFIX}/lib64/notification-daemon-xfce &&
make

Install the package:

make install

Configuring

There is no special post-installation configuration. Test the package:

notify-send "CLFS is for real Linux users."

You should see a box pop-up in the lower right corner displaying the message.
