Introduction to XFWM4

This is the window manager for Xfce 4.

Configuration Information

Some X Window System options that can be passed to the configure script. To explicitly prohibit their use, pass them as --disable- options.

--enable-randr: try to use the XRANDR extension.
--enable-render: try to use the render extension.
--enable-xsync: try to use the XSync extenstion.
--enable-compositor: enable the compositor.

Non-Multilib

Compile the package:

./configure --prefix=$XFCE_PREFIX --x-libraries=$XORG_PREFIX/lib &&
make

Install the package:

make install

Multilib

32Bit

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILD32}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH32}" \
./configure --prefix=$XFCE_PREFIX --x-libraries=$XORG_PREFIX/lib &&
make

Install the package:

make install

N32

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILDN32}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATHN32}" \
./configure --prefix=$XFCE_PREFIX --libdir=$XFCE_PREFIX/lib32 \
--x-libraries=$XORG_PREFIX/lib32 &&
make

Install the package:

make install

64Bit

Compile the package:

CC="gcc ${BUILD64}" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH64}" \
./configure --prefix=$XFCE_PREFIX --libdir=$XFCE_PREFIX/lib64 \
--libdir=$XFCE_PREFIX/lib64 --x-libraries=$XORG_PREFIX/lib64 &&
make

Install the package:

make install

Configuring

The compositor extensions are included in the X.org X Server. To enable compositing, edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, adding the following. You will have to restart the X Server for this change to take effect.

If you are using the nVidia closed-cource driver, you may add the following to the "Device" section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to enable the XRender in hardware.
