Introduction to SDL
Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D hardware via OpenGL, and 2D video framebuffer.
SDL is written in C, but works with C++ natively, and has bindings to several other languages, including Ada, C# (Mono), Eiffel, Erlang, Euphoria, Guile, Haskell, Java (JDK), Lisp, Lua, ML, Objective C, Pascal, Perl, PHP, Pike, Pliant, Python, Ruby, and Smalltalk.

If your X Window System is anything other then /usr/X11R6 then run the following command to adjust the sources:
sed -i "s@/usr/X11R6@${XORG_PREFIX}@g" $(grep -lr /usr/X11R6 *)
Compile the package:
./configure --prefix=/usr && make
Install the package
make install
Install the documentation:
install -dv -m755 /usr/share/doc/SDL-1.2.14/html && install -v -m644 docs/html/*.html /usr/share/doc/SDL-1.2.14/html
Multilib
32Bit
If your X Window System is anything other then /usr/X11R6 then run the following command to adjust the sources:
sed -i "s@/usr/X11R6@${XORG_PREFIX}@g" $(grep -lr /usr/X11R6 *)
Compile the package:
CC="gcc ${BUILD32}" USE_ARCH=32 \
PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH32}" \
./configure --prefix=/usr &&
make
Install the package
make install &&
mv -v /usr/bin/sdl-config{,-32}
N32
If your X Window System is anything other then /usr/X11R6 then run the following command to adjust the sources:
sed -i "s@/usr/X11R6@${XORG_PREFIX}@g" $(grep -lr /usr/X11R6 *)
If you are using ARts then run the following command to fix a problem detecting the 64-bit aRts library:
sed -i '/$ARTS_PREFIX/s:/lib:&32:' configure
Compile the package:
sed -i "/-laudio/s:/lib:&32:g" configure &&
CC="gcc ${BUILDN32}" USE_ARCH=n32 \
PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATHN32}" \
./configure --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib32 \
--with-alsa-prefix=/usr/lib32 &&
make
Install the package
make install &&
mv -v /usr/bin/sdl-config{,-n32}
64Bit
